Hardware requirements:
Pentium or faster, minimum display area 800x600 32 MB RAM, 10 MB free hard drive space, for Windows® 95/98/NT/2000/XP

NOTE: The network installation method requires that the license is inserted to the server

Alternatively you can also choose to install TypingMaster / SpeedSkin Edition to each of the workstations separately. In this case you just need to perform the single installation using the CD-ROM with each workstation. This installation method does not require the license key, but you will not be able to use the centralised management and reporting features of the program.

Easy Network Installation

Installing TypingMaster/SpeedSkin Edition to your network is very quick and easy; only three steps are required for installation.
Steps A and B are performed on the server or the teacher’s computer. Step C is performed on workstations.

A – Server Installation

Install TypingMaster / SpeedSkin Edition to a shared directory in a server computer.

1. Begin installation by inserting the installation CD to the CD-ROM drive of the server or teacher's computer. The Welcome window for the installation will automatically start. Select Next to begin installation. If the correct language version was not automatically recognised, please choose it from the list before selecting Next.

Tip: If the Welcome window did not open automatically, please select Run from the Start Menu and type in x:\setup and press OK - the x represents your CD-ROM drive's letter.

2. When the installation begins, the installation program will request you to close all running programs. If no other programs are running, you may continue by selecting Next. Otherwise cancel the installation and close other programs.

3. Now you will select the TypingMaster installation folder. The default folder is C:\Program Files\TypingMaster. If you wish to install TypingMaster to another folder, such as a shared network folder, select Browse and choose an installation folder. The TypingMaster server installation requires that the program is installed to a shared folder. All workstations must have access to this folder.
This folder can be named \\server\programs\typingmaster for example.

4. Next, we will select the installation method for TypingMaster / SpeedSkin Edition. If you are installing TypingMaster into the network server, please select the "Network" installation option and select Next. After you have chosen the Network installation, you will be presented with the components to be installed. Please make sure that at least the "TypingMaster Typing Tutor" and "TypingMaster Manager and Network Tools" components are selected, since these are required for server installations.

5. You may not wish to install ProTrainer as a part of your school network installation. This part of the TypingMaster / SpeedSkin Edition program is best used on an individual computer where only one person is assigned. You can remove ProTrainer from the list of install items. Netsetup will not install ProTrainer to workstations by default. If you wish to have ProTrainer installed to workstations, please enable the installation from the Common Settings in TypingMaster Manager.

6. The installation program will now copy program files to the server and create necessary shortcuts. After this, the server installation is complete.

B – Insert Network Licenses

Before installing the workstations, the license information for TypingMaster must be inserted to the server. You can also define the common settings for all workstations.

To insert the license information to TypingMaster:

1. Start TypingMaster Manager from Start Menu > Programs > TypingMaster > TypingMaster Manager

2. Select the Licenses tab and click on View / Add Licenses.

3. Insert your license information to the licenses window and select Enter. You can find your license information at the back of the TypingMaster product case. After this, it is a good idea to check that the Common Settings (such as workstation installation folder) are to your liking, since these settings affect all workstation installations. Common Settings can be reached from the File menu in Manager. For detailed information on these settings and their effects, please see the Network Manual found in TypingMaster folder in the Start Menu.

C – Workstation Installation

Go to each workstation and execute the NETSETUP.EXE file found in the server’s TypingMaster folder. Netsetup will copy all necessary files to the workstation and create a shortcut to the Start -menu. Detailed instructions on installing workstations can be found in the Network Manual.

If you wish, you can also use the login script utility in Windows NT to automatically distribute TypingMaster on your network.
