school design & technology resources - construction kits

These construction kits have been specially designed to implement an understanding of basic physical laws as they are put together, whilst at the same time creating simple, working models. Assembling the kits provides training in fundamental craftwork skills and they are fun for children to do.
Airboat Kit
Airboat Kit
The airboat kit is designed as a basic introduction to model making by being extremely simple to construct yet demonstrating several principles. We have yet to find someone who has failed to get this to work.
The kit contains all the parts necessary to construct a motorised propeller airboat.
2xAA batteries required (not included).
1978  each  £4.75
Motorised Pulley Driven Chassis Kit
Motorised Pulley Driven Chassis Kit
The kit contains all the parts necessary to construct a motorised pulley driven chassis kit: wheels, axles, DC motor, large and small pulley, tie clip for motor mounting, battery box, (pre-wired to motor and switch) and enough wood and card. This kit shows basic construction skills using square timber and card and is the simplest form of motorised vehicle as the alignment of drive train does not have to be as accurate as a worm drive.
2xAA batteries required (not included).
1980  each  £4.95
Motorised Worm Driven Vehicle Chassis Kit
Motorised Worm Driven Vehicle Chassis Kit
The kit contains all the parts necessary to construct a motorised worm driven chassis kit: wheel axles, DC motor, worm and gear, tie clip for motor mounting, battery box, (pre-wired to motor and switch) and enough wood and card. As this kit uses a worm and gear for the drive train it requires a lot more accuracy in the construction but will give a more solid transmission.
2xAA batteries required (not included).
1981  each  £4.95
Hovercraft Kit
Hovercraft Kit
This exciting project is one of the simplest forms of hovercraft which the student can build, comprising a fan and motor for lifting, a chamber in which the air is formed and a wide-skirted base to provide stability. Each kit is packed with a comprehensive set of instructions and drawings, plus a 'fault finder' checklist. These machines produce an air cushion on which the craft is supported, therefore there is no contact between the craft and the ground and no friction to overcome.
2xAA batteries required (not included).
1979  each  £4.75
